FROMTHE PRESIDENT
With the 2013 “Our Time is Now” World
Conference just around the corner, the
pace of things at our national headquarters
is reaching full throttle. Our staff is work-
ing double-time to pull together countless
details in order to create a stellar time of
growth, encouragement and learning. This
year’s conference is shaping up to be our
best ever. Workshops are filling up quickly, and the Opry-
land Hotel in Nashville is nearly sold out! If you have not yet
registered, don’t wait! I look forward to seeing you in Septem-
ber. In the meantime, here are some “snapshots” of important
AACC news and updates you need to know about.
Dr. James Dobson Announced as Dinner
Theater Speaker at World Conference
Probably no one has done more in our lifetime to defend and
support the family than psychologist and author, Dr. James C.
Dobson, Founder and President of Family Talk, a nonprofit
Colorado Springs-based organization that produces his nation-
ally syndicated radio program heard on nearly 1,300 stations.
Dr. Dobson previously served as President and Founder of
Focus on the Family for 26 years, and he also is a co-founder
of the Family Research Council.
Time Magazine
refers to him
as “the nation’s most influential evangelical leader” of our time.
Dr. Dobson is a true friend of Christian counseling, and it is a
tremendous pleasure for me to welcome him as our featured
speaker for the Dinner Theater on Friday, September 13, 2013
at 7:30 p.m., along with special music by Matthew West (this
is a ticketed event). Dr. Dobson, who recently celebrated his
77th birthday, told me he is very excited to share a passionate
message God has laid on his heart.
Second Biennial AACC Foundation Golf
Classic to Benefit Project Tuza
I want to personally invite you to join us before the World
Conference gets started for our second biennial AACC Foun-
dation Golf Classic at the prestigious Gaylord Springs Golf
Links on Tuesday, September 10, 2013. This course has been
named Middle Tennessee’s “Best Course You Can Play” by
GolfWeek Magazine
. Come out for a great round of golf and
help support an even greater cause! Enjoy a fun and relax-
ing day with fellow Christian counselors and raise money for
Project Tuza! This initiative, led by AACC Executive Board
Chair, Dr. Diane Langberg, offers extensive training to raise up
Rwandan counseling leaders who can offer hope, help, and
healing to their own communities in the wake of genocide. At
the 2011 World Conference, more than $42,000 was raised
for Project Tuza, and our goal for the 2013 World Conference
is to raise $50,000. If you are a golfer, or even if you just want
to make a difference, this is an event you do not want to miss!
I hope to see you on the greens… stop by the World Confer-
ence Web site today to reserve your spot!
New AACC Tracker App Monitors Counseling
Progress and Outcomes
In today’s technological world, the AACC is committed to of-
fering you the best possible resources to enhance your work as
a Christian counselor. One of those technologies is apps. De-
veloped by one of Christian counseling’s most trusted leaders,
Dr. Mark McMinn, the AACC Tracker allows you to tangibly
oversee your clients’ improvement session-by-session. Use the
Counseling Progress Check (CPC) and Counseling Partnership
Alliance Check (CPAC) to guide the counseling process and
identify real change. The AACC Tracker has two distinct parts:
The Client Manager and The Session Manager. Add an alterna-
tive to handwritten notes and files! The Client Manager allows
you to organize all client names and contact information in
one safe, secure, and confidential place. The Session Manager
allows you to easily keep session notes and store results of
the CPC and CPAC. This is a complete progress management
system for your counseling practice! Now available through
iTunes for iPhone and iPad for just $9.99.
Counseltalk Global Webinar on the
DSM-5
to
Update Clinicians on Latest Changes
The much-anticipated release of the
Diagnostic and Statistical
Manual, Fifth Edition (DSM-5)
has brought with it excite-
ment, questions, and even controversy. As a Christian coun-
selor, it is critical that you are aware of significant changes in
the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. This is why the
AACC is thrilled to bring together three mental health experts
for our upcoming Counseltalk Webinar, “Effectively Using the
DSM-5
in Clinical Practice: Updates, Changes and Diagnostic
Strategies,” August 20, 2013 from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. ET. Drs.
Gary Sibcy, Linda Mintle, and David Jenkins will discuss the
new paradigm to diagnoses, including important changes
made to categories such as eating disorders, autism spectrum
disorder, substance use disorders, and more. Webinar par-
ticipants will be equipped to understand and transition into
using the
DSM-5
in both diagnosis and treatment planning.
And the best part? Counseltalk Webinars are absolutely free to
all AACC members. Continuing Education hours are available
at an additional cost. Do not miss out on this opportunity to
gain clinical training from a Christian perspective… all in the
comfort of your own home. Reserve your spot today at www.
counseltalk.net. This Webinar will sell out!
Blessing Project Curriculum to be
Released at World Conference
In partnership with Drs. John Trent and Tony Wheeler, we are
thrilled to announce the development of
The Blessing Project
Curriculum
, designed to equip parents, couples and families
to pass on the biblical concept of “blessing” to their loved
ones. I firmly believe every child needs at least one person in
the world who is crazy about him or her. The same is true for
every wife… and every husband! The family is the foundation
of our society and, as Christian counselors, helping our clients
thrive and grow in their most important relationships must
be at the heart of what we do. Available in both DVD and
online versions for ease of access, this cutting-edge curriculum
will be a powerful tool in both your own life and to use as a
resource with clients.
The Blessing Project Curriculum
will be
released at the upcoming World Conference.
Whether it is providing training on clinical uses of the
DSM-
5
, harnessing technology for integration with your practice
through the new AACC Tracker App, or developing coun-
selors in Rwanda, the AACC is on the forefront of equipping
Christian professionals and lay helpers to provide competent
care to those who need it most. We love being a part of your
life. Let’s roll!
